Sri Ambikeshwara Kuchipudi Dance and Music Academy
Since 90 years in Visakhapatnam, the four generations of his family members have been dedicating themselves to this Indian Classical Field and in the year 1982, at his native place Visakhapatnam, Guru P. V. Bharani Shenkar founded the institution named Sri Ambikeshwara Kuchipudi Dance and Music Academy and it was registered in 1992 under the Public Charitable Trust. This Academy gives training in the academic system, so that its students can appear for Government's Certificate, Diploma and University's Post-Graduation Entrance Examinations in Dance. We are proud to say that our students have achieved success in the above said courses. With perseverance he brought Institution at top position and is the only Institution in Vizag city to consist the valuable library for his trained disciples.
Training Particulars:
With 50 years of dedicated experience in the field of Classical Dance, teaching thousands of students from all over the world, Guru Bharani Shenkar categorised the Foundation Course into 'Three Levels' of 'Fundamental Foundation' and another Course for "Expression Foundation". It is guaranteed for any student to gain high levels of efficient 'stamina' with perfect 'sculpturesique' mastery on the basics of Kuchipudi Dance by mastering these 'Three Levels of Fundamental Foundation' and 'Expression Foundation'. Once mastered, one can develop an ease in their body to perform this tough art form. Thereafter, a student is said to be 'eligible' to learn the SOLO REPERTOIRE IN KUCHIPUDI STYLE.
Some institutions may promise to train a fresher in The Kuchipudi Fundamental Course in a lesser period of time. This is advertised and practiced at many places to lure ignorants into speedy completion of the course there by saving their time and money. But one need to realise that there are no such short-cut miraculous methods to be followed in any Classical Dance form

he following is our '3-Level System' that assures our students to get a very good foundation in aspects such as grace, control over the body, etc. which lead to a greater flexibility of the body, poise and gait, that would later help them to perform Solo Items with ease, and make them eligible to undergo the "Course for Expression Foundation" in the later years.Address:

Banjara school of dance
Banjara is India's first and largest Belly Dancing School.
The basic aim of Banjara is "to express not to impress".
The basic aim of Banjara is "to express not to impress".
Meher Malik is proud to present the Banjara School of Dance, an intiative to bring together different dancers from different styles and cultures of dance.
Banjara is not merely a dance company but an artistic shelter where different minds, bodies and souls will meet to create higher and greater levels of dance in this country.

The word Banjara translates to gypsy - a word given to travellers who lead a nomadic lifestlye. Somewhere, every artist is a gypsy - always searching for more, an inspiration, a story. A note in the soul of every human being is an artist - searching for what's beautiful, what's aesthetic. We're all gypsies - our mind wanders to the sea or mountains when life gets too full of itself.
We're all travellers. We're all wanderes. We're all artists.
The basic aim of banjara is "to express not to impress". To give a life through dance to change the opinions that people might have about art and artists.
our forte - egyptian oriental
Meher malik and the instructors from Banjara School of Dance will be teaching Egyptian Oriental dance and other related dances.

Butoh meets Contemporary - An experimental Performance
Butoh is a young art form from Japan and was founded by Tatsumi Hijikata and Kazuo Ohno after the 2nd world war. With their progressive and revolting performances the artists initiated a very aesthetical way of a protest. The translation of the word Butoh is „ Dance of Darkness" The roots of Butoh are also found in Expressive dance as Mary Wigman an Rudolph van Laban developed end of the 20ths. Since the 90's Butoh finds it's way all over the world and has developed in many different directions an can be seen as an Performance Art as well as an practice.

Butoh aesthetics are much wider and its practice is more than just a new choreographic and visual trend, discovered and developed by the Japanese modern artists.

Ramanaya at Ranga Shankara
Sandbox Collective presents
RAMANAYA
9 February | Ranga Shankara | 7:30PM
10 February | Ranga Shankara | 3:30PM & 7:30PM
Ramanaya is an attempt to explore the fundamental Indian myth, the Ramayana, but to do so with a playful wink. The performance finds an entry into the revered epic through a central sketched model, made of materials recycled from junk and debris. That landscape, a kind of mind map, will be used as a playground—a place to discuss the infinitive scenarios that unfold in the Ramayana.
Two storytellers find an entry into this map, and get carried away by the force of what unfolds.
Slowly the map expands, grows more complex, taking the two storytellers deeper into the stream of mythology. As their journey takes them into the stream, they find new perspectives in its surreal world, and the epic reveals itself to them in new and unexpected ways. The spectator is invited to join the performers on their journey, and discover this world with them. And perhaps even find their own answers to the questions they are confronted with.
Directed/Choreographed by: Felix Mathias Ott
Performed by: Puja Sarup, Vinod Ravindran
Supported by: The International Co-production Fund of the Goethe-Institut (Goethe-Institut)
Age limit: 8+

Natale Tumchyasaathi - A documentary film
Natale Tumchyasaathi- Behind the Adorned Veil, a documentary by Savitri Medhatul & Bhushan Kargaonkar studies Lavani, a performing art that has been popular in the state of Maharashtra since centuries. It records testimonies of sangit bari dancers and 'banner show' dancers to discover the difference between their approach, style, idiom and self-image. The hour long film takes the viewers deep into the ethos of this wonderful art form, and also the stories of Lavani dancers that are full of love, pain, survival, dreams...and ultimately segregation from society.
Lavni Workshop by Shakuntalabai Nagarkar
Lavani is a graceful and powerful art form of Maharashtra. Like many other regional arts, it has undergone a multiple changes over years. Yet, it has retained its essence which is direct connection with the audience and unabashed expression of sensuality.

Lavani has a vast repertoire which covers a broader range of performance styles based on their rhythm, rasa, and themes. However, films invariably used lavani only in their 'item number' sequences. Most of us have therefore seen lavani, only as a titillating dance form. The beauty and nuanced artistry of traditional lavani has not reached us.
We propose to give an insight into this art form through our workshop. Participants get to learn it under the guidance of Shakuntalabai Nagarkar, a veteran lavani artist. They also get an opportunity to spend time and chat with her and get a glimpse into the world of Sangeet Bari.
