Ramayana Festival by ASEAN Countries

Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) is organising the Ramayana Festival by ASEAN countries which will include performances by groups from Thailand, Myanmar, Indonesia, Malaysia, Lao PDR, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines & Brunei. The event will start on January 20th and continue till January 24th, and will be held at the Kamani Auditorium, New Delhi.

S. L. Puram Sadanandan Memorial Award
S L Puram Sadanandan was a famous playwright and film scriptwriter of Kerala. He was the founder of Kalpana Theatres and Suryasoma Theatres at S.L. Puram. He has written more than 60 plays .His first drama Kudiyirakku was staged when he was only 16 years old. He entered the film world by writing the dialogues for the film Sreekovil in 1962. He had written script for famous Malayalam film of \'60s, Chemmeen.He wrote scripts for more than 150 films and many of them won state and national awards. In 1965 he got the national award for the best screen play for the film \'Agniputhri\'. S.L. Puram Sadanandan, who passed away on September 16 at the age of 79. S.L. Puram was a Communist throughout his life and theatre for him was his way of participating in the political process. S.L.Puram Sadanandan memorial Puraskaram, instituted by the Kerala Sangeeta Nataka Akademi, for those personalities who showed outstanding contributions to the theatre movement. The award panel headed by Akademi chairman and theatre activists and he award comprising a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, citation and plaque. This is the highest cash award for a theatre person in the country at the official level.

Kavalam Narayana Panicker (2010)
Noted theatre personality Kavalam Narayana Panicker is the founder-director of the theatre group, Sopanam. He has written about 26 Malayalam plays and adapted Sanskrit and Shakespearean plays into Malayalam. He was awarded the 1983 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in Direction by Sangeet Natak Akademi, India\'s National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, which gave him its highest award for lifetime achievement the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 2002.
Pappukutty Bhagavathar (2009)
Pappukutty Bhagavathar is an actor (on the stage and the screen), musician (Carnatic, playback ) and kathaprasangam artiste. He is the only actor-musician to be selected for this prestigious award so far and that too at this age, makes this honour more noteworthy.
Nilambur Ayisha (2008)
Actor Nilambur Ayisha has won the S.L. Puram State Prize for her overall contributions to the stage. The award is a fitting reward for an actress who showed exceptional courage to appear in a drama at a time when society discouraged women from acting.

Sargaratna Puraskaram was instituted by Sruthilaya in the year 2008, to acknowledge the performing talents in classical arts especially in carnatic music. Sruthilaya is a registerd Institution started in the year 2002, with the aim of teaching Carnatic Vocal & Musical instruments like Violin, Mridhangam, Guitar for the students of all ages. It nurture cultural values by providing expert guidance in coaching students and building talents in the area of Carnatic music. The Sargaratna Award is given to Carnatic musicians every year during the All Kerala Sruthilaya Music Festival.

Prof. B. Sasi Kumar taken his master diploma Ganapraveen from Sree Swathi Thirunnal Sangeetha College Trivandrum. Later he became the disciple of Violin Mastero Chalakudy Narayana Swamy. In 1971 he became the staff artist of All India Radio.
