Flautist Santosh Sant hails from a family of musicians, from Gwalior(Central India), and received his early training in Indian classical music from his father Late Sh. Vasantrao Sant, a Gwalior gharana(School)vocalist. He was subsequently trained by famous Sitarist.Pt. Shriram Umdekar. Santosh Sant later moved to Mumbai to learn from flute maestro Pt.Hariprasad Chaurasia,and became his "Gandabandh-Shishya"(Disciple). Now-days,his name is considered in one of the senior disciples of Pt.Hariprasad Chaurasia.
Santosh accompanies his guru Pt.Chaurasia regularly in concerts and also performs as a solo artiste in several prestigious music festivals.
He is the recipient of the gold medal awarded by the Department of Culture, Government of India, and the Directorate General of All India Radio in 1990. He was also honoured with the Kala Samman by the Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of Madhya Pradesh.Has also awarded by the title-"Venu-Shree."
